What's on in Barnet
New service - Refugee Youth Project has a new service for young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, and their families. The Migrant Children’s Project is holding a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL monthly legal advice surgery for children, young people and their families at Refugee Youth Project, Whitefield School, Claremont Road, NW2 1TR. A lawyer from Coram Children’s Legal Centre will offer advice about immigration issues and rights to access social services support, healthcare and education. The advice surgery will take place on every third Thursday of the month (term time only) beginning on 20 September 2012. Advice will be provided by appointment only between 2 pm and 5 pm. Weekly during term-time:
Tuesday after-school Club, open to young refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and their friends aged 11-18 years old. Every Tuesday during term-time, 3-5pm, held in the Extended Schools area at Whitefield School, Claremont Road, London, NW2 1TR. We have creative and skills based workshops, sport, games, homework support and much more! Activities so far this year have included a Cooking workshop, Basketball workshop, Graffiti art, Film-making, T-shirt design, Refugee Week art workshop, Crazy golf, Pool, table football, drop-in homework support and gardening. Tuesday Girls Group, open to female young refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and their friends, aged 11-18 years old. Every Tuesday during term-time, 320-5pm, held in the EAL department at London Academy, Spur Road, Edgware, Middlesex, HA8 8DE. We have creative and skills based workshops, sport, games, homework support and much more! Activities so far this year have included Street dance workshops and a public performance as part of the Big Dance, cooking, art workshop, glass painting, knitting, make-up and nail painting, and games. Every two weeks during term-time:
Saturday trips for young refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and their friends aged 11-18 years old. Every second Saturday during term-time, we visit exciting places and have fun! Trips so far this year have included: The Science Museum, Tate Modern art gallery, The British Museum Hajj exhibition, Go Karting, A fun run, Swimming, Bowling, Cinema trip, and rounders and football on Hampstead Heath. Trips are free and lunch is provided, we meet at Whitefield School, Claremont Road, London, NW2 1TR. Holiday activities:
Summer Holiday activities – Refugee Youth Project runs a four week summer project of workshops, activities and trips for young refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and their friends aged 11-18 years old.. This summer we worked in partnership with Whitefield School Extended Schools and Paiwand to deliver two weeks of workshops including photography, archery, arts and crafts, fashion design, multi-sports and Kids Out ‘World Stories’ recordings with the BBC, as well as trips to the cinema, Brighton, Aquasplash and Thorpe Park. We worked with JCORE Jump to run a trip to Lambourne End outdoor activities centre, and with The Children’s Society to run a camping residential there, where we did archery, a ropes course, team building, climbing, raft building, swimming and cooking. Half-term activities - We run two days of activities and workshops over each half-term, for young refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and their friends aged 11-18 years old.
