Refugee Youth Project is recruiting for two part time project workers (up to 12 hours per week at £11.50 per hour) for our Bridging London Project supporting young refugees and asylum seekers in the London Boroughs of Barnet and Croydon.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with our small team to assist in running after school, girls, and youth group sessions, monthly Saturday trips, and holiday activities. The project workers will also undertake outreach activities in schools, colleges, social work teams and community groups to encourage hard-to-reach young people to attend the project. The post in Barnet is funded by the John Lyon’s Charity and the post in Croydon is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The closing date for this post is 5pm Wednesday 15th May. We expect to hold interviews on Friday 24th May.

Refugee Youth Project is recruiting for a part time Finance Officer (up to 20 hours per month at £11.50 per hour) to work with our Trustees and project staff to develop and manage our financial processes as the charity expands. The successful candidate will have experience of charity accounting and will be proficient in using accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks). This post is part-funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The closing date for this post is 12 midday on Wednesday 1st May. We expect to hold interviews at our office in Croydon on Wednesday 8th May.

Volunteer - Croydon Girls' After-School Club

RYP are looking for one enthusiastic volunteer to help faciltate a new girls' after-school club for young asylum seekers and refugees (aged 11-18) at a girls' school in Croydon.

The club will be every Monday during term-time from 3-5pm, you would need to be able to volunteer between 2pm-5:30pm on that day. The club starts on Monday 28th January, you need to commit to volunteering for 1 year (during school term-time). The club will be held at Westwood Girls' College.

The club will involve drop-in sessions and workshops including creative and sports workshops chosen by young people. We are looking for someone with good communication skills who is keen to support young asylum seekers and refugees. All volunteers must provide 2 references, undergo an RYP CRB check and attend RYP safeguarding training.

 

Ongoing volunteer opportunities

London project

If you would like to work with young refugees and asylum seekers in London, then please get in touch. Refugee Youth Project provides lunch and travel expenses. We require your permission to obtain a Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.

We are always looking for volunteer youth workers available on for our Tuesday afternoon youth group session and for some Saturday sessions, which are held in London Borough of Barnet. Training and support provided. Contact us by email if you are interested in this voluntary role. Education Project

Refugee Youth Project is visiting schools in London during Refugee Week 2012. Volunteers use educational packs to present assemblies and deliver lessons. If you are interested in being involved in volunteering in schools during Refugee Week 2011 (20th-24th June 2011) and are free to volunteer during school hours please contact us at education@refugeeyouthproject.org.uk for further information. Please also contact us if you are a teacher who would like Refugee Youth Project to visit your school during Refugee Week.

Fundraising

If you would like to get involved in fundraising for our work in Lebanon or our Nepal, for example by organising events or utilising other skills, then please contact us at info@refugeeyouthproject.org.uk.

Festival volunteering

Refugee Youth Project has previously sent volunteers to Glastonbury and other summer festivals to pull pints for the Workers Beer Company. Volunteers get a free ticket to the festival and their wages go to Refugee Youth Project. It is lots of fun, and Refugee Youth Project is planning to have a similar presence at festivals in 2012.
